dumb question =)

post #1 of 9
Thread Starter
Sorry if this is a dumb question
but i'm looking to SLI, is it ok that I mix my current eVGA card (8800 GTS 320 mb) with say... an ASUS (8800 GTS 320 mb).
I know they have to be identical cards, does that mean it has to be identical in brand too?

Nope! It'll work fine! ^_^;;

I'd set the clock speeds identical for more stability but the manufacturer does not matter one bit.

Are you certain? I was always under the impression that it had to be from the same vendor as well as the same technology. BFG had me going then when they state in thier instructions that it HAS to be the same vendor.

P.S. It's not a dumb question for two reasons.
1) There is no dumb questions
2) I didn't know either

It had to be the same vendor before Feb 2006. A driver update around that time allowed different video card BIOSes to work with each other in SLI.
Once again...

Same GPU, different makers + different ram sizes = Okay, but it will lower the ram to the lesser of the 2 (say 640MB to 320).
post #8 of 9
Yeah. Same everything as far as memory bandwidth/size and all that is recommended...

I did not know that. I just thought it downclocked the speed to the lesser of the two.
