2nd fan(push-pull) on a tower really matter?

Thread Starter
I am at work so I can't try it just yet, but was brainstorming and wondering if having the 2nd fan in a push-pull on a tower really makes that much of a difference?

Note I have this cooler

Which takes a 92mm fan but I have rubberbanded one of my Silverstone FM121's on there. It blows out the back of my case and I have another Silversteon FM121 as exhaust right there.

So the second fan is what about 4 inches from the heatsink. I was just curious if I would see an improvement actually putting it on the heatsink to give me the push-pull. Granted at 110CFM, 4 inches away it might still be pulling anyway But just wondering if anyone with a Scythe or a Thermalright Ultra 120 had tested the 1 fan and 2 fan setups.

Anyone have a delta on the change, if any?

Funny you should ask that...

I'm presently testing a push-pull setup with Thermaltake Blue LED 120mm x 25mm fans on my Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (see sig).

The ambients have been a little cooler than when I last ran a dedicated thermal performance test, but there has been a change in the cooling performance already compared to a single push fan configuration (same Thermaltake Blue LED fan): Cool-downs are much much faster. I'm waiting for a night when ambient temperatures are closer to when I last did my tests, just for a closer comparison.

i would say it would probably help. I dunno if i would be able to do this with my AC Freezer 64 =\\ so i cant test it or whatever.

I say go for it.

It makes a slight difference if one fan isn't able to push hard enough. I did some testing with very low speed fans on a watercooled system.

http://www.overclock.net/water-cooli...enchmarks.html
Ambient: 24-25C

Idle: 25C
12v Push-Pull: 33C
12v Push: 34C
12v Pull: 35C
8.7v Push-Pull: 34C
8.7v Push: 36C
8.7v Pull: 36C
No fans: 48C

A little bit goes a looooooong way. After that, you get much less return. What push-pull does allow is that you run two quiet fans instead of one loud one.
Once again...
