3200 Venice overclock limit?

Thread Starter
I'm currently trying to overclock my 3200 Venice CPU and I'm after some advice....

The CPU details are: -

Stepping: LBBLE
Date: 0524
Code: APDW
Rev: DH-E3 (CPU-z)

Here's where I am in the overclocking......

CPU @ 2600MHz (260x10)
VID @ 1.55 (BIOS) / 1.52 (CPU-z)
Mem @ 2.5-3-3-6 1:1 2.8v (full memory setting can be posted if required)
HT Link @ 3x (780Mhz)

Using the setting above, it stable (see attachments 1 - 3)

My problem is that if I increase the FSB to 265 so the CPU's @ 2650Mhz, is no longer stable. 3DMark01 just locks up after 30secs, SuperPi 32M dies after approx 5 minutes. However, SP2004 does run ok and I am able to run SuperPi 1M at the same time as SP2004 (see attachment 4)

So at first I thought increasing the VID would sort this out but after increasing it by several steps (1.612v (BIOS), 1.568 (CPU-z)). But I soon realized that it might not be a voltage issue, but the limit of the CPU.

I've ruled out the memory as I know it can run at 320Mhz (DDR 640) @ 2.5-4-3-7 without any issues. Also, I know I can POST at 2730Mhz (273x10) with the VID @ 1.55v.

I've also tried 3 different BIOS's.

So, do any of you guys have any ideas on what I can try to get a high oc?

How high did you try to post at? Mine posts at even 550x11, but it all matters if it passes the "Verifying DMI Pool Data..." point

Set it to run MemTest86 and keep upping 2 FSB at a time until it won't boot. You'll have your theoritical limit there.

I should have made it clearer by what I meant by POST limit..... The POST limit is when the boot process doesn't make it to the bootmenu (I'm currently multibooting with XP & Vista)

Other limits I've hit are 304x9 & 343x8 (all with the VID @ 1.55v)

Well after a lot of Googling and trying different settings, I think the 260x10 is the limit of my Venice

If temps allows for it, anything up to 1.6v 24/7 is fine

I agree with gonX, I had to take my 3500 to 1.6v to get it past a wall.

Edited to add: What bios are you running?

I'm currently using th 704-2BTA. I've also tried 623-3. Do you recommend one?

Mine rev. is DH-E3 too. Mine can reach up 10 X 260 and over that point it get unstable.
