that would make the eq flat but not the frequency responce flat. what he is trying to do is get the sound that comes out of the speakers the same level on all frequencies only problem though is the audio card has it's own bumps and dips in the frequency curve as well as the speakers and so to get that that you do need to tweak the EQ to something other then flat.

I have Studio Monitors Literally...

EDIT: IDK what studio monitors are, but I have the StudioMonitor 450, 2 of them. Cost me $700 :'(

http://www.definitivetech.com/loudsp...iomonitor.html

The sound coming out through the speakers is not gonna actually be flat on other people's speakers. The way it comes out of your speakers is what sounds flat to you. If you record with a flat input, you will be getting a flat input. It may not sound like a flat output coming out of your speakers, but it is. You just gotta trust your hardware. Pretty much every speakers has it's own unique sound, and EQ flat will probably sound different on all of them. Kinda hard to explain if you understand...
chances are your right as far as the soundcard as it shouldn't change the freq responce that much but the speakers on the other hand I can almost promise yo uare not going to be flat. this is where the tweaking come through flat.

That is why I recomend both of these units/ software, especially the second one. Both are highly accurate, and the Audio Controol unit I use regularly. It will take in to account all acoustics. Make sure to place the Mic where you want flat res... and you will need a pink noise test track. Do not compress the Pink noise track. Both have supurb mic's.

See if one of your local car stereo shops has one, you may be able to find a guy willing to come over and help you. Keep in mind 3yrs ago the Audio Control SA was $5k. Huge price drop. I have also seen the guy who runs sound sytems at our local theater have one in his pocket pc, but as I recall he said it cost $500.00 + the cost of the pocket pc.

I would be happy to help ya, but that is quite a drive from Bend, Or.

dude, it ain't that far, come on! hahaha I looked at your User box right before posting the last.... hahha

I should be able to find someone here, but I am not sure it it is the best thing to do... I mean first I should get the monitors then I should make sure I ain't moving soon... I want to build me a house reason: so I can build a room without right angles and a small portal for cables so the PC is on a separate room with out having to spend a fortune on cables... that and I'd love to have my own house finally

that room would blow people away when they listened to it...

Do keep in mind Flat res.. sounds horible, it just gives you a refrence to adust each freq equally. The only reason the car audio industry uses the RTA in comps, is to make sure that the car can produce all freq's from 20-20khz equal. After that, the eq is then set to user desc.. for sq judging.

I'm hoping that was a typo or mental error. Flat frequency response is the creme de la creme of audio nirvana. I spent over $60k trying to achieve a home theatre with a flat frequency response. It was the best sounding system I've ever heard in my life. If you think an EQ is used to improve audio, this link might change your mind...

Maybe we all have different definitions of flat. Do you mean flat as in "not very much in the treble and bass department or do you mean equal response throughout all the frequencies?

For me, cheaper speaker system need EQ to me because the treble usually sucks or some other frequency range sucks. But for most really nice speakers, the sound without an EQ can be good enough.

By definition, flat should mean that the music is presented exactly the way in which it was recorded. You'll rarely, if ever, see an EQ in any nice home system for a reason. Anything in the signal path can only degrade the original signal. It's also the reasoning that you won't see motorized volume knobs, fancy LEDs, etc.

No typo, I feel sorry for you if you like flat, because that means you would only have 1 10" subwoofer turned way down, and that would prob... still be too loud. I have sold and installed Audio Equipment for 10+years, and I have never tuned a system for flat, and had a customer like it. Extra Bass, and Extra High's are allways a must. midrange tends to over power lower and higher freq's easily. Being able to produce flat res..., however is extreemly important. I own a Pioneer DEHP880prs deck in my truck, and It comes with a mic. that auto tunes flat res.. "if possible". When done, and verified with the audio controol SA My eq's Flat res... is a true "flat" I can then have = cont... over 16band's and tune it up the way I like it. If I don't adjust the EQ it sounds horible.
