Trust me, satellite will be WAY over 100ms. I played against a fellow that had satellite, we were looking at around 900ms ping.

I'm currently on wild blue (don't want to mess with cost of living in college apartment, so staying home til August first when I move off to grad school). It's better than the 56k that we had (very rural area...phone lines just physically cannot support anything else), but the latency is atrocious. Playing MUDs and such online is even a problem. I wouldn't even dare to attempt Left 4 Dead

I worked for Etech for 8 years. They are a legitimate company and a subsidiary of ATT.
