First time Overclocking.

Thread Starter
I booted into the bios and uped the fsb 5mhz. Then I did it again with another 5 mhz. However, when I go to my computer properties, It says 2 CPU @ 1.86ghz 1.93ghz.

does this mean that only one core is being overclocked? how do you correct this?

also, when upping vcore, it shouldnt go over 1.7. If my ram is 4-4-4-12, what would the next timing be if I loosend up on it?

Normally you want to stay under around 1.55 with most C2D on air cooling.

System properties is just saying that your CPU runs normaly at XXXXX speed, but atm is running at XXXXX speed.

Lowering timings doesn't help much with C2Ds i have heard

The 1.86ghz is your stock clock. Its showing the stock clock, to the overclock.

When you raise the FSB on a dual core processor, it overclocks both of them.

ok, about the voltage. Vcore is the CPU voltage. I noticed that there are options to change voltages on everything. I should leave all of them alone for now because they dont pretain to the CPU....?

Can anything bad happen out of overclocking if you stay under 55c and 1.55vcore?

also, I went from 1.86 to 2.07ghz so far, and I notice a small screen glitch when I go into the bios now. is this caused by the overclocking?

I still need the answer to that pre bios screen glitch and one more question. Should I set the ram speed to be the same as my fsb? Im at 1280fsb right now and my ram is 800mhz.

Did you try stressing your system after each overclock interval to see if it is stable? Try lowering a bit and run Orthos for a while to see if it comes up as being stable.

orthos is a type of test used for c2d processors which stresses both cores. It has various processes which you can select. During these tests, if you error at any time, it'll let you know. Be sure to monitor system temps which its running. It is suggested that when nearing the end of your OCing, run orthos for 24hrs and make sure nothings awry. I might be mistaken, but that the general concept.

For single core, u can use prime95.

Also, you might want to set your fsb:ram speeds to 1:1..

Orthos, google it. It's a stability test for your pc, when overclocking. Every time you overclock you should let it run atleas 1 hour or something.

And that screen glitch you are getting, I think it indeed is the OC. BEcause I'm geting the same when overclocking.

And set RAm ration 1:1
