OCZ Displays Carbon Nanotube Cooler - Page 2

That's cool, I'd love to have one. 5 times more effective cooling means we could run our Core 2's in a fanless quite system.

cobalt 60 isnt radioactive normally, but if you hit it with radiation it then becomes radioactive or whatever you wanna call it. Basically once that happens it starts to decay thus giving off radiation and it has a half life of like a very very long time which is not good.

As for the cooler looks pretty cool, would be nice to get some air cooling that could get you close to ambients. That would be outstanding.

The thing looks like a air filter off of a car allmost .

I wonder how soft the base is... Cause that would suck if it cracked when you tightened it down. :'(

I wish they would simply strap that thing onto a c2d and tell us the temps...I'm really curious to see how it performs...

Even though it's a prototype, I'd still like to see some test results.

as much as carbon can absorb heat without melting. i would not doubt how good this thing "could" work.

i once took a map gas + oxygen torch and burned away the wood off a school pencil and heating the graphite for like... 25 minutes... it didnt become brittle or soft, (burnt myself touching it though! got waaay not!)

i have no doubt some design with carbon and air would make an AWSOME air cooler... (although for carbon i would recommend one of those powered fans for like 5 min after pc shuts off, without air movement i doubt the carbon would dissipate the heat very much.....)

(why havent they thought of making the tops on cpu's outa carbon? with both being carbon (the ihs and the hs) it would cause a very good heat transfer from one to the other....)

so my heart tells me this is a great idea... but..... il wait for some results before i jump aboard.....

It's not really anything like carbon, it's an allotrope of carbon which means it's basically a completely different material, another example is diamond (a more well known allotrope).

The importance of this point is that the costs involved to manufacture this will be quite a bit higher than your average pencil.

I'm pretty sure Carbon 60 is harder than diamond. They use it in armour and stuff like that I believe...

I know that regularly, carbon is a pretty bad conductor of heat... Things like Diamond, being awful conductors because of little movement in the structure..

but apparently they've overcome this? lol
