Can I get some help? I am stumped, bad core?

Hey guys, so...I finally got to putting together the system in my sig yesterday, turned it on, partitioned a drive, loaded windows, and promptly fell asleep. (whats wrong with me!)

This morning I booted up, and It froze on me, curser wont move, HD's not moving, everything else on. I rebooted, and got a blue screen about 15 min in, I rebooted again, then it ran fine for a while, I partitoned the rest of the drives, untill I started installing the windows updates, it froze like earlier again. I rebooted again, finished that round of updates, then tried to find out what was making it freeze up. I put about 5 gigs on each partition, but it would freeze when I started doing anything else. I then proceeded to load SP2, and it froze mid install. Now I am pissed. I started thinking about it and it only froze when I was doing multiple things, well, most of the time. Some research says its a driver issue (I dont see which one), but I am thinking it has to be hardware, with the HDs not spinning or anything, possibly a bad core because I cant really multitask...Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Could I be overheating? (I have 4 80mm, 1x 120mm, and the fan on the stock heatsink...) I havent started to overclock yet either. I have noticed that my USB devices (wifi) quit working....odd...

Thanks for the help.

Probably not enough vcore. Check it in the BIOS and set it to 1.35 if you have one of the new revisions, or 1.25 if you have an old one.

ok, thanks I will try that, it was at 1.34, bumped it to 1.35, cpu temp is showing 44C!

Edit, nope, froze up again...

sorry for the double post, but at 1.356 explorer keeps having to shut down, and at 1.25 -1.35 it locks up whenever I start doing anything intensive...

Really really sorry for the tripple bump!

Ok, I reinstalled windows xp pro, its a full legal version I own, that has worked before. So I know its good. So, I redid my mobo drivers, my vid card drivers, ect, and am still getting freezes. I ran PC mark and 3d mark and they both ran through fine. Then 3d mark crashed on the results page...go fuigure.

It crashed twice on xp install so I said it has to be hardware, but now event log is showing explorer crashing...

Any ideas? Instead of a 4th post I will update this one if no one replys..so check back if you are willing to help! thx!

what's your vdimm? A lot of boards set the vdimm at 1.8V, even though the stock voltage for the RAM is higher (my RAM is 2.2V). Go in, and set the vdimm at it's stock manually.

I had the exact same problem. You have to get the latest BIOS. The P5N-E SLI has issues with Corsair XMS2 RAM.

Yeah the entire machine is new...However memtest86 was clear....

Oh and to get the machine to run I had to install the sticks in slot 1a & 2a instead of 1a and 1b.

I am trying to install a new bios, I downloaded the zipped folder from asus's site. I renamed the Bin in the file to CMO, and it wont load because it says its not the same size of the current bios, any ideas?

Thanks a TON!

Well, to take the OC out of the equation, run everything at stock--not sure if anyone recommended that. If you're still having problems, obviously it's not a setting you changed for the OC--then it is more than likely hardware-bound--faulty motherboard maybe? I know that's a longshot, but it seems like you've tried all the other things.

EDIT--are you running your OC in your sig right now, or is all at stock? Sorry if it's at stock--just ignore what I have above.
