I would like to make a stable over clocked workhorse for myself around this cpu.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117104
I believe this is about the same as the e6600 but server grade......
If anyone know the difference please inform me.
I would like to include a evga or xfx dx10 card , mushkin ram , Asus board.
What should I get ???????

Get an Asus P5B Deluxe Motherboard for $180...it is still one of the best C2D OCing mobos around.

And an eVGA 8800GTS 640MB for $350 (after $20 MIR), awesome card and with eVGA's warranty and step-up program you can't really go wrong.

And for memory, if you NEED to go Mushkin for RAM then I know this used to have D9's but I'm not sure if it still does. If you can go with a different brand, these G.Skill HZ's come with D'9s and only cost $110.

BTW...I don't know what your budget is so I picked out relatively expensive stuff, let me know if you can't spend that much or can spend more and I'll change my selections.

You know I just have a cheap 600watt powering my 8800gtx, and it works fine and has for the last couple months.

I have 2 other friends locally that own 8800's and they both use this psu as well.

Its enough for my entire system as you can see below.

My question is why not just go with an e6600. From what I understand, the only advantage of the Xeon is that you can run then on multi-cpu motherboards. The performance should be the same as the e6600.

edit: I guess you do get to show off to all your friends your nifty new pc powered by a XEON god of all processors. haha

Good plan. I love mine, very fast and it won't bottleneck your 8800-to-be.

I have the same CPU. I got an Intel Bad Axe 2 Motherboard because it is an Intel Extreme Series, so it is very high quality; and very stable. I got G. Skill DDR2-800 HZ's because they overclock like crazy, and are damn cheap. And, I got an eVGA e-GeForce 7900GTX because they are one of the best DirectX 9 Graphics Cards and I got it for only $200.

For you I would get:

Intel Bad Axe 2 or Asus P5N32-E nForce 680i, eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTX, and 2x1GB of G. Skill DDR2-800 HZ.
