A new Build within my budget..please come look - Page 10

i'd drop that 6000+ to a 3600+ and save a bundle. The 6000+ might OC 200 more mhz then the 3600 but costs about 3 x as much

Unless you're thinking phenom will dominate and want a am2 board for it, then go LGA 775 and a core 2 duo for that price range
post #92 of 118
Yep, as stated before, Intel Core 2 Duo is the better price.

If you want AMD, indeed get a Brisbane core CPU, since they simply overclock better.

What do you mean, go back in 6 months???

A rig I build a year ago (Opteron 170, 2GB G.Skill DDR 500, Dual X1900's in Crossfire) would still be able to play any game on the market right now (except of course DX10 patched Company of Heroes).

Here is a lower budget gaming rig that will play basically any game you can think of right now (will probably have difficulty with DX10 games though).
Subtotal ZipZoomFly: $1019.91
Subtotal Newegg: $254.48 + shipping + tax

TOTAL: $1,274.39 + shipping + tax from Newegg

looks sexy chocho but id like to have no problem playing dx10 games =/
how many months you think the gtx will last me rather than the gts..

by 6 months i meant the release.. like a mobo with ddr2.. a 6 month old one... a graphix card.. a 6 month old one.. then you get into the question can you really judge it like that..cause everything can be so different.

whats up with theses new 2900 512s out? does this mean the x1950xtx price will drop significantly?? well i might want to do 2 x1950xtxs in crossfire...or is it called SLI?

so basically if you have 2 512s it will act as 1 gig of gddr3? given that u have the gddr3 in each slot

and wouldnt that cream out 1 768 gtx?

Well... there still isn't an onslaught of DX10 games, and there aren't many in the pipeline either. I think the 8800GTS 320MB has as major drawback the limited amount of memory. I'd personally get an 8800GTS 640MB at least, since that card will play any game right now, and probably do pretty well in DX10 games also (I, for one, don't pay *too* much attention yet to demos out there, since it seems these are poorly coded). Also, if you look at my last rig with the E6320, it's easy to add another 8800GTS 640MB in the future.

The 8800GTX is better than the 8800GTS, but it's hard to say how many months it will last longer. I am lucky with an 8800GTS that gives a lot of 8800GTX's a run for their money...

The HD 2900 XT is a nice card also, beating the 8800GTS, but a little more expensive. From a price / performance perspective, I'd call it a tie. I don't see any reason for ATI to drop the prices of the X19xx series, since the 2900 is priced on top of those already. Only then the lower range models of the HD 2xxx series come out will the X19xx drop in price, but then it's probably better to get a 2xxx series card for the same price. Do note that X19xx does NOT play DX10 at all.

Personally, the 8800GTS 640MB is the best card in terms of price/performance. Just too bad their prices went up by about $30 recently.

I think you should have enough ideas now in different price ranges. You can combine the three last rigs listed (yours for a bit over $2,100, mine around $1,700 and mine around $1,300).

I recommend that if you choose another part you explain why. Just posting a list basically doesn't add a whole lot anymore, and it makes us start all over again
