Hi guys i bought this labtop and stuff a dell inspiron 1501 and its specs are below. I dont know how the heck to get this thing gaming somewhat decent.. Anyway i know nothing about ati except the drivers arnt that amazing.. To top it all off it has vista on it and ofcourse its running dx10... can you run dx9 on vista because everything laggs bad.. it could Also be my lack of ram. I cant play halo at 640x800 or gta san andreas at 800x600 either.. does this card suck badly? I guess its an X1150 which if it was nvidia i bet it would be like a 7100gs or something... anhything i can do. My geforce 2 runs halo better than this... and lets not even go into 3dmark 05... i think that its the dx10 that messing me bad.. any help here guys? Much appreciated!

DX10 in Vista is only enabled in DX10 games.
Your GPU is DX9 only, and the Vista interface itself doesn't use or require DX9. Your GPU should be enough to run Vista with all the eye candy, I think. What you're probably lacking is RAM, 2GB would be ideal.

As for games with the 1150, I don't know much about it, but it's kinda bad I guess, but I would've expected that you can play GTA San Andreas since an Intel GMA950 can play it on low settings...

My girl has a x1150 integrated vid card coupled with a Sempron 3000 and 512MB DDR333 RAM. The OS if of course XP. I haven't tested Vista on it, nor do I want to try, as anything lower than 2GB will cripple even basic web browsing on a laptop.

As far as gaming is concerned, I think it is a bit lower than a GeForce 5700LE I used to have, it scores over 6000 in 3DMark2001. It can run NFS Underground (not 2) on 800x600 medium details, mafia 800x600 full details, and all this with only 64MB shared memory. Anything more than 64MB of memory diminishes the performance, as the 512MB are quite insufficient already. 3DMark 2005 - below 1000, I think around 800, but hey...

*EDIT All in all 3hours+ of battery life for 500$ and very decent performance... not bad at all. The x1150 has only 2 pixel pipelines, 0 vertex pipelines, working at 400MHz on a 64bit 333MHz mem interface, what would you expect, honestly?
