I think I'm screwed...

Thread Starter
OK so well I first had problems with my CD drives. They wouldn't load or something. Windows saw there were CD drives there but there were no drivers for them. And they were recognized in the hardware configuration. Well I can't really do anything because neither CD drive will read the presence of a CD. I can't do crap on that end.

Now I don't know what has happened but Windows XP will not run. It starts but after a while (1 minute) it just goes kerplut and freezes up. I can't reinstall windows because my computer will not read the install CD for Windows. The BIOS recognizes the drives, but that seems to be it.

So how do I correct this? I can work in safe mode in Windows. Maybe I can try to read the CD there. Doubt it will work though. I guess I need to somehow wipe the entire harddrive at this point.

BTW, this all started with moving around the jumpers on the back of the CD drives. I moved them and I think it was that that caused the issue. I'm not sure but I'm gonna do some searching. I hope someone can come up with a good idea. Thanks guys!

Try removing your overclock first. Or put the jumpers back to where they were.

If you only have 1 IDE device, don't put any jumpers on any drives. Also, did you move the jumpers on the SATA hard drive?

If all else fails, installing an OS on another computer is simple. Just replace the HD that usually goes with that computer and delete the partition etc. But unless nothing else works, there probably ways that are easier.
'bout time.

Why did you even mess with the jumpers on the CD drives? lol

So if you go into BIOS and set the boot order to boot to the CD first it doesn't pick up the Windows Disc?

If so I would doublecheck the integrity of the disk...if thats okay I can't think of anything else other than you zapped the drive?

Also you can press F12 or something and that'll let you manually pick what device you want to boot too (H.D.D/CD Drive/ZIP Drive/ETC...)

OK first OC has been removed so that isn't an issue. Second I moved the jumpers on the CD drive... no such luck.

As for boothing from a disc. Its not the disc. It is the CD drive itself. Both of them. My computer just wont detect them properly or something. It fails to load from the CD drives at all. I mean it just skips the CD drives no matter what is in them. It also seems that whatever I put in the drive, nothing will show if I access the drive in Windows. Again, there are no drivers for it that Windows can find other than the Microsoft ones from 2001.

Oh, and I messed with the jumpers so that I could run them correctly with one as the Master and one as the Slave.

At least thats what all the instructions said to do, lol.

Okay, two things, one... go into safe mode with networking, then download OCCT perestroika stress test and run it for the 'auto' test please. You may or may not be able to do this. Second, make SURE you have the jumpers on the CD drives on CABLE SELECT... BOTH OF THEM.
