AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Clawhammer?

Thread Starter
Socket is 754

The machine is a ABS Mayhem G3

Now the advertised GHz is 2.0GHz but using CPU-Z I am getting 798Mhz

Bus speed is 199

Multiplier is 4

voltage is 1.1

I am thinking its because it a mobile CPU and when it needs to it will kick up the GHz but it never does no matter what the load is. I dont get it?

Anyone know whats up?

Let me expand on this .........

I am on my laptop!

ABS Mayhem G3 about 2 years old now......not the new one

I have tried prime95 to max out the cpu and cpuz reports no change from 798MHz it stays there even after changing power settings to desktop.

I am considering replacing it with a 2.2GHz venice core athlon 64 cause they are so cheap anyway i could tell the wife its broken! Its not a mobile cpu but its the same socket i dont guess that hurts!

Will flashing the bios remove the factory restrictions?

Well what do you know ABS has a bios update on there site for my laptop!

Don't know with your laptop but on the A8N-SLI the option is in bios under:
Advanced > CPU Configuration > AMD CPU Cool & Quiet Configuration
Select Cool & Quiet and set it to disabled.

Flashing th bios on your laptop might remove the factory restrictions but in many cases they are locked so that they can not be flashed.

OK, my bad for not understanding that it was your laptop and not your sig rig.
After some research it appears that the ABS Mayhem G3 is actually an Uniwill a58ka0, not that it matters other than Uniwill have a later bios available then ABS does. That said, get the bios of your choice and follow these steps (as provided on an ABS forum:

Download and unzip the latest BIOS(1.05), (or whatever bios you choose) from Uniwill's download pages.

Insert a floppy disk that has nothing important on it(used or blank) into your desktop.

Next, go to "My computer" and right click the floppy drive icon

Click the "format" option in the menu that comes up.

You will get a little window, click "Create MS Boot disk".

After it creates the boot disk, double click your floppy icon and transfer the contents of the unzipped folder the the floppy disk.

Next, Open Nero, and when you get the project options, click "boot disk".

It will ask you to import a boot image from a floppy, select the drive your floppy is in and click ok.

After this, add the contents of the unzipped folder to the list of files to burn. Make sure that you have properly imported the image from the floppy disk or your cd will do nothing when you try to boot from it.

After you burn the cd, put it in your laptop, and make sure the BIOS is configured to boot from the cd drive before it tries the hard drive.

Once it boots, you will have a DOS prompt. Type this in to flash it:

F82745 258ka5.105 (or whatever bios you are using)

This will flash your BIOS.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you let the BIOS finish flashing, or you will end up with a corrupt BIOS and your computer will be unable to turn on.

It will tell you when it is safe to "reboot". At this point, you can hold the power button and turn it off.

When you turn the computer back on, go into the BIOS and set "optimal defaults". Save this, it will reboot, then you can configure it however you like.

Note: To enter the BIOS, press F2 while it is first turning on.

There is only this tiny small problem .........I don't have a floppy drive or floppy disk!

And do you mean 258KA0 ?
