Noob to OC'ing

Thread Starter
Hi all,

Well I heard good things about overclocking, and thought it was about time I had a try.

But I need lots of advice, the last system I built was a PII 400mhz with a geforce 2 card. Never tried to overclock that one. Now I have a toy to tinker with. Amd Athlon XP 1800+, Asus A7V333 (std bios) Radeon 9600 Pro.

Any ideas where to start would help heaps.

Your bios has some overclocking options that you can find listed in section 4.4, page 79 of your manual. Before you try to change any of these settings I wouls suggest that you spend some time reading this:

Good advice for him

Do get to know the BIOS, you can go into it and play with it all you like and just "Exit" but DO NOT "Save" changes for now untill your sure you want to!

Thanks again,

I hadn't thought about downloading a pdf. I had a small tinker lastnight, I uped the multipler by 0.5, and the system was crusing at 1.6ghz. Once I learn more if I can hit 2ghz or more I will be really pleased.

Ok, started really playing today.

I read through that guide a few times and have followed its advice.

I increased to 1.75v droped the multi to 6 and uped the FSB to 166. I'm 30mins into running Prime95's Torture test with no problems. CPu temp holding at 35c and mobo temp 32c.

I hope I'm on the right track.
