Are New Games Too Demanding ?

Thread Starter
Ive seen a few screen shots of new games coming out , and I read many a argument about min specs to be able play these games

So I was just wondering what views people had , and do they think that games these days are just becoming to demanding ?
Do we really need better graphics in games , or are you more happy to have hardware that can run the games you have at top whack now ?

Please , dont start a flame war , as I'm only asking

Everyone wants graphics over all... or thats the way it seems now. I miss the days of Doom, where gameplayibility reigned over graphics.

I think the developers should be able to cater to both in the same game. the high games should be the best work while the low should not still require a pretty good pc

Well what I was thinking was , take BF2 , yes its not everyone's cup of tea , but most will admit that on top settings it looks good , so if I was to buy another game and that game ran the same way , I would be more than happy

But games that will be out soon will need more and more upgrades just to get to the same level I can play BF2 at , to me I would rather see programmers use there talents to make a game playable , not just look good

Yes, i do. Right now my video card is basically on its last leg right now. I just got Test Drive Unlimited and I really have to tone down the graphics in order to keep it at a playable frame rate. I think it's more or less they have to work on the coding of the game in order to get the game optimized better, instead of trying to just spit it out with a bunch of glitches and bad performance when you get to low end cards.

If you want playability run at 640x480 with everything on LOW. It may look bad, but it will definitely run superb.

A better argument would be: do you think the prices for hardware necessary to play said demanding games are too steep?

With affordable pricing, games would seem much less demanding being that more and more people would be able to enjoy games in a smooth manner. Not sure how well that would work out for the hardware companies, though.
