8800GTX Ultra or 2 8800GTS' in SLI?

Thread Starter
If money was not a question, what kind of video configuration should I get?

1 8800GTX Ultra or 2 8800GTS' in Sli?
Aiming at performance what should I be buying as either configuration costs about the same.

Also can I overclock either configuration with only air cooling?
Note: I have a full tower case with 3 120mm fans and huge side vent instead of a window.

Thanks in advance. Appreciate it.

Go for SLI 8800GTX. Yes, you will be able to overclock on air, just make sure that your motherboard is either a nVidia nForce 4 SLI, nVidia 590SLI, or nVidia nForce 650i SLI, or nVidia nForce 680i SLI. Why? Because these are the only to have at least 2 PCI Express Slots which run at x16 while in SLI and not x8 (which wouldn't work for 8800GTX because they require full x16.)

the Ultra edition is not worth the extra money, its basically an overclocked 8800GTX. IMO, get the GTX if money is no object.

SLI GTX although not the Ultra version, even though money was no object you can get seriously overclocked GTX's for a considerable amount less than that of an Ultra.

Sorry, but it seems I worded my question strangely.

What I meant to ask is whether I should buy 1 8800GTX Ultra, or for the same money get two 8800GTS' in SLI.
I would go for the single card. Dx10 SLI is not very optimised right now, and a single card is better and more stable.
get a single 8800GTX not the ULTRA.and OC the gtx to ultra speeds.

nm, started on an Ultra vs GTX rant and realized that:

1. it's already been covered
2. I'm being really negative today for some reason

I'd say go with the GTS's but get them from evga so you can use the step up program once DX10 is fully established. You'll have uber SLI before alot of people can afford it Putting any money into a DX10 card right now is kinda iffy but the step up program makes it much safer.

dx10 right now is a joke...honestly, id wait before getting dx10 as its a waste of money unless you're buying a new system as you are.

You should not even think about getting the Ultra.... just get the 8800GTX it has almost the exact same performance as the Ultra but it costs a ton less.
