Switching from Verizon to Cingular

Okay,

So, Verizon is pissing me off and I am going to cancel my contract.

I am also deciding to move over to Cingular so I can get the iPhone plus their plans and services kick a lot of arse. 39.99 for 450 minutes a month plus rollover and an extra 20 bucks for unlimited texts of any kind to anyone a month.. 60 bucks a month for that is awesome to me, so I am doing that.

Anyway, what steps should I take to port my number onto my Cingular contract? Do I need to cancel Verizon first, sign up with Cingular and tell them to request my old number or do I need to tell Verizon?

I would go to Verizon and tell them you are switching networks and want to keep you number, and just do what they tell you to do. But remember to say no to all the offers they make you.

So bring it up when I call and they will tell me what to do from there? They increased their text prices from 10 cents to 15 cents, so if I go over my 1500 allowed, those dollars come freakin fast.

So this is what I should do:

Call Verizon, tell them I am canceling my service and want to keep my number with my new carrier.
They will make offers (most likely) and tell me further instructions.

Any idea what their instructions will be? I just really don't want to lose my number. So I am just seeing if any of you guys have done this before so I know what to expect.

Breaking contract before the release date will result in a $200+ cancellation fee. Just so you know. And, the iPhone is horribly overrated.

The fee is 175 bucks. And I work at Apple and I am training to support the iPhone. It's actually not that overrated. It's really a great phone, lol and it has everything I could even want in a portable device... So, I've already decided I want one.
