Just don't expect too much. The 8800GTS 320 is great, but Supreme Commander pretty much gets only "decent" framerates out of the GTX and 2900XT/GTS 640.

Games that try to push DX9 to its max apparently can even stress the G80/R600.

Let me try to find some benchmarks.

Here it is, max settings @ 1920x1200 with no AAxAF

One thing to note, on the small table below I saw these listings:
1280x1024 Max Settings, No AA/AF
8800GTS 320 47.7
1950XTX 42.4
2900XT 50.4
8800GTX 56.4
8800GTS 640 49.4
8800 Ultra 57.7

1280x1024 has almost the same pixel count as 1440x900, so you can see it's a very stressful game, even for the latest and greatest Wallet Beaters.

And also remember that Anandtech uses top of the line systems to test video-cards. (X6800, 2GB Micron ram, Raptor hard drive)

But to me, 47 frames per second at max settings is very respectable. As long as it's above 35, I think it's a good gaming experience.

Actually, you would benefit from a quad core on SUPCOM. RTS games require monster cpu's. July 22nd check the prices on the Q6600. I will be buying one

in other news..... e6400 for sale Lapped mirror finish 3.2ghz @ 1.38v

You might want to delete that "other news" as the rules don't like people to circumvent the 35 rep rule. Just keep posting helpful and eventually you'll hit your 35 rep and sell your chip the right way.

The last thing you want is a few infractions on your record like me.

And yeah, I agree, Supreme Commander and CNC3 benefit more from the jump from 2 cores to 4 than they do from monster graphics.

now mad even if i dont have a good comp anymore ill still get out my 8600 stick and beat you with it

no in all honesty the 8600 cards are mid range DX10 cards, and can handle any DX9 game at 16x12 and under with pretty good results after that the fall back a lil, but for your needs get the 8800.
