X1800XT operating temperatures

Thread Starter
I am getting crashes in Oblivion at what seems to be random moments. I decided to get AtiTool to check my temperatures. it says:

GPU(min/max/avg): 77.4/95.4/86.2
GPU environment: 61.0/67.0/63.7

I don't know if these are normal because they seem high... Am I in the normal range, I'm not overclocked at all... i.e. core:600Mhz and memory 700Mhz

Damn! Thats really hot! W/ your avg at 86.2 and you max being 95.4, you might want to consider an aftermarket fan or better airflow in your case.

Yes those are defiantly high. Try to stay under 75 to 80C.

You should get some after market cooling like a Zalman VF900 or a Arctic Cooling Accelero X2.

Just turn your fan to 100% in ATI tools. It will be loud as hell but it'll cool it down alot.

put fan at 100%.if that dont work, allow for better airflow in your box.if that dont work try to reseat your heatsink.if all else fails, get an aftermarket fan and heatsink.

while you are waiting you should just re-apply your current cooler just for safety until you get your other cooler.

I put some fresh AS5 and the temps dropped Amazingly!!
core: 60C at (45% fan is idle)
environment 46C

When I took of the cooler, I notice there was too much paste. I don't know what kind it was but it was the same colour as AS5...

Anyway. I am guessing that after the break in period, my temperatures will be normal. Hooray!!

ATI manufacturers tend to put wayyyyyyy too much on the heatsinks, when i re-seated mine it looked liek it was oozing all over the place. A little AS5 cleared that problem up however.

It most likely will be the same colour as most thermal compounds have the same mix of elements like boron, just at different quantities, the AS5 is seperated by the fact it has real silver in teh paste, which really helps it conduct heat more effectively. This might also give it a lighter grey colour, not sure though...

I used to have that card and that is a normal temp at stock. The fan doesn't even spin up to full speed until 110C as I remember

If you are worried you can always force the fan to 100% but those temps are not too big of a concern really.
