BootVis Fastest Booting Computers. With Results and Guide. (Boot Time Benchmark)

Thread Starter
*Supposedly Vista and 64 bit don't work with this, if someone can figure it out though...*

This thread is to compare system boot times! Who has the fastest booting PC here? Let's find out!

I will list all of the times, not just the top 10, so even if your boot time sucks post it so we may laugh!

Results!

Instructions

*** If you have multiple user accounts and or passwords and use the welcome screen to log on, you need to set it to automatically log in to your account. You can do that by following these instructions http://8help.osu.edu/2063.html. ***

First download and instal bootvis here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=664

This is a no holds barred benchmark! So once you got your overclock the way you like it...

-Open Bootvis.

-Trace your next boot and set it to shutdown before tracing.

-Open the boot you just traced.

-Uncheck all of the unnecessary boxes so that only Process Created is showing.

-Find where explorer.exe is on the graph, and remember the approximate time it started so we can find it later.

-Adjust the graph width and time interval so we can measure it, and then find explorer.exe again.

-The time will be measured from 19.50s, 19.55s, 19.60s, 19.65s, ect... You will round to 5 hundredths of a second (it goes in intervals of 0.05s, see?). If you rounded UP to 19.50s, then you would list your time as <19.50s, to signify that your time is less than 19.50s. If you rounded DOWN to 19.50s, you would list your time as >19.50s, to signify your time is greater than 19.50s. So a time of <19.50s would be faster than a time of >19.50s.

-The time i got in this picture would be <19.50s. I just drew in that ruler to aid in the example.

-Now post your screen shot of your time and list your set up like so.

-Time / Operating System / CPU Model and Frequency / RAM Amount and Speed and Timings / # of hard drives Hard drive type RAID (if any)

-An example would be <19.50s / Windows XP Home Edition / C2D E6600 3200MHz / 2x1GB 714MHz 4-4-4-12 / 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250gb 16mb Cache in RAID0

There are a lot of variables to that.

The way you would test it is by timing from when the computer POSTs until the hourglass on the mouse goes away on your desktop.

That is how I know it to be done.

Everyone has different themes and programs on startup, so probably from the time you press your power button to the time the login screen appears would be good.
