$300 Budget (RAM+GPU+Mobo*)

Thread Starter
Well it was previously my birthday about 1 week ago, and I received $300. I thought well on what I want to buy, since my X360 got the ROD again! So I'm considering upgrading this machine, depending on the parts I can afford though.
So I need a GPU+RAM (2GB) and a good budget mobo. I won't be upgrading to Vista soon, so no DX10 cards. But I did find a 8600GTS for $135 though. So suggestions are all welcome!

I'll still be using this Pentium D, which I'm interested in overclocking with new RAM.

Well, you could get an Asrock 775Dual-VSTA, it has 2x DDR2 slots and 2x DDR1 slots, 1x PCIExpress x4 and AGPx8. It's a budget board, but it's actually rock solid. I haven't had any problems with mine yet, and my Celeron D is at 3.2GHZ (OC'ed from 2.66).

As far as GPU goes, I haven't seen a game yet that a 7600GT can't play at respectable settings. Sure you can't max out some games, but maxing out isn't the only way to enjoy games.

EVGA 7600GT 256mb $94.99

Gigabyte 965P-DS3 Rev 1.3 $99.99

G.Skill DDR2 800 2GB NQ $80.99

2gb ram DDR2 800, Gigabyte DS3 and a 7600GT. That's one hell of an upgrade, and it's $25 under budget. If you wanted, you could upgrade the video-card to the best you can get for $120.

Some worthy mentions-

Sapphire 1950GT 256mb PCI-Express

It over-clocks to a 1950Pro very easily, but it's about $15 over your budget.

A 7600GT, the NQ ram and the Gigabyte DS3 are honestly very great upgrades. You'll notice a massive increase in your system's performance.
