Lol, yea I understand that actually, some people know a lot less about specific details which kind of sucks. There are actually 2 guys that are amd ocer's there which I found kind of cool. I prefer people like that, who know much more about hardware, as it helps to fix many simple issues that the other techs wouldn't look for. Like yesterday, I ran prime 95 on a pc that was locking up and it failed in 3 minutes. Took it apart and there was dust caked all in the heatsink. I took it apart and cleaned it all out, ran prime again and it ran for 3 hrs fine. Most of the other people there would have ran tests on the thing for hours, when it was a simple fix like that. In general though, when I wasn't working anywhere, I looked at the geeksquad in similar way as you do, just because of how they have to do things according to SOP and the things they fix seemed easy to me to fix, and a lot don't seem to know what they were doing, beyond what they were told to learn, which is what you said basically.

right, yea see thats awesome that those guys know what they are doing, most techs ive met dont even know what prime is or what stability is, and have absolutely no clue about pc temps, cooling, you name it... all they know how to do is put in a cd and install some garbage software, and they think theyre all leet pro technicians

I HATE GeekSquad. I had a Dell 8200 that wouldn't show any video so I gave it to them. They held it for almost 3 weeks and when I finnally demanded it back they said they finally looked at it and it needs a mobo and cpu. I guess they thought I would just throw it away. I gave it to the pc guy who set up my os for me on my new rig for spare parts and wouldn't you know, it booted on the first try. It was the vid card the whole time and they never even opened the case to look at it.
Back in the day I would have waited for the guy in the parking lot with my boys and worked him over good, but having kids changes you I guess. I hate the stale cheese sandwiches they give you at the department of corrections here in philly...
Oh, and try to get your $70 diagnostic charge back...

I understand the wait time because at the time everybody was buying Vista with all the driver problems that come with it, so I let it slide for awhile.
