C drive is removable?

Thread Starter
my first build went alright with 1 wd 250 gig SATA and 2 other IDE drives, but i get that "safely remove hardware" icon in the systray and it thinks that my SATA drive is removable. everything works fine, but i'd like to fix that. anyone know how?

thanks

I don't know how to fix it, but it is a common problem with sata drives. You can right click taskbar and choose to hide it all the time. Someone else will have to go deeper to a permanent fix for you.

EDIT: Oh, and welcome to OCN!

thanks,

would reinstalling the drive or plugging it in differently do anything?

what about updating drivers?

A SATA drive is removable, think of it as SATA = USB

You can't do anything about it, trust me. It's because SATA Hard Drives support Hot Swap capabilities, they are detected as removable, but you can go ahead and try to click remove hardware, they will say it doesn't work. And no, switching slots will not do anything, and do not remove the HD as it is running.

Polo and Pook helped you, I think you missed it.
Right click start menu, --> Properties.
Go to customize, and set HIDE ALWAYS.
