Apple announces new leopard prices!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Page 13

And I'm back to this thread........

The only people who use macs are either video/graphics editors or noobs. No one in between. I think most people on this forum are in between. And that's why I see so many $700 emacs with 600mhz powerpc CPU's and 256MB of ram on craigslist being sold and bought by noobs. As for the editors, I don't know why you prefer macs over PC's, but there is no reason to. And these 2 groups of people make up something like 5% of all computer users. The rest of the 95% of us use PC's because they offer us more compatibility and a larger software selection, much larger. So in conclusion, PC's are better for general use, and it is a known fact that macs are overpriced. You can't just compare dell vs apple.

That has all been counterd by steve jobs himself. Especially the part of dell vs apple prices. Apple beats dell.

How is it over priced? You have to look at what your getting. Apple doesn't sell "value" machines; your not going to find no $800 machine.

2.2ghz C2D
2Gb memory
120Gb hard drive
15" WS display
and the apps:
  • Address Book
  • DVD Player
  • iCal
  • iChat AV
  • Mail
  • Preview
  • Safari
  • Xcode
Thats better than notepad, outlook and IE, and those above apps are pretty nice if you've ever seen them.

I've used those apps, and it amazes me how there is a huge lack of options in each. But still, I have to admit, OSX might win with preinstalled apps. But why would I care since I can obtain any non-free app I want and it'll always be better than preinstalled.

So, a gamer who has built multiple Macs out of parts from all around is considered a noob?
Oh, but that's right, I do end up doing a bit of everything including video and graphics editing now and then. Nothing serious in those two areas though.
/me ponders what material should be used for the "airflow zones" of his primary Mac's ATX server case...

Aside from the fact that _no_ eMac ever shipped with a 600Mhz CPU. (the min was a 700Mhz 7450(G4))
Ever used an eMac? They have damn nice displays despite the somewhat failure prone IVAD cable. I can totally see why someone would want one for their young kids, grandmother or even for light use for themselves even though an older iMac would be better overall. Heh, not a G3 iMac though, they sucked ass in a bad way and were prone to PAV board issues. The eMac was never designed to be high end. But yes, $700 for a damn eMac is far too much and with $700 I can build a _much_ better custom G4 based system.

Well, just having more is not always better. One must also take quality into consideration. Sure it may be nice to brag about the amount of software one has but in the end it is the features, ease of use and quality of the software that wins. Same goes for hardware, sure you have 500 different brands and models of a certain thing but if there are only a few good ones with the rest being crap it is only the good ones that matter.

Oh, and on a side note in relation to the beginning of the thread. There is more than one version/release/"flavor" w/e of OS X. There is OS X Client and OS X Server. Server requires a sn but if you enter it into the register/setup app thingy right after install with your Mac disconnected from the internet you should be ok.

I am a mac hater. Why ill tell you. I once had in my possession a g3 iBook that I purchased at the time for $750 on ebay used. The thing was ok except for the harddrive and the battery. The hard drive failed one morning while encoding an audio file with audacity. (which took forever on the dated 500mhz g3 processor) So I took it to the local apple repair shop. It took the bastards 2 months to replace my harddrive and it cost me $400 for a 60gb replacement. That is some serious bulls**t. If only they didn't use some proprietary scsi bulls**t i could have gotten it replaced for about i dunno $300 cheaper!!! I also bought the laptop to play some small games. Too bad the POS lagged when playing bejeweled!!!!! You would think that a computer that cost $750 would be able to play bejeweled, but no the 8mb ati card couldn't handle it. The iBook met its demise once my dad left his 700mhz AMD Duron machine at my grand parents house when he moved to Florida. Many months later I let my friend borrow the laptop and the tip of the power charger broke off and got lodged into the port making it impossible to power on again. I didn't even charge him, I just got the laptop back and dumped it in a pile with all the other worthless pieces of technology I have.

Since macs use intel now it would be foolish to buy one considering you can get a pc equivalent that works with OSX for $1000 cheaper. Macs fail now, just buy a dell with Linux and install OSX over it.

Good to know that "Intalling OS X over it" is that easy.

Plenty proof of ignorance. Someone close this thread or people stop bashing.

Period.

Its cheap. I didnt specify the easiness. Also:

$500 dell + $128 osx = $628 pc that would cost $1500 if it was made by apple.

We all dont have money for $30 coffee's and designer computers made by Californians.

Its like this: why buy an $50 hollister t-shirt when you can buy a $5 regular t-shirt that is the same.
