I'm form Georgia. Been in CA two years. Where I live has nothing to do with you over-exaggerating.

And now that you've proven that you're small enough to judge someone on where they live, your opinions REALLY don't matter.

Thanks.

And at that: I own an Apple Keyboard and a Copy of OS X. No other hardware. I sold the Apple 30" I have.

Sure, some Apple users take it way too seriously, just like Windows based PC users take themselves WAY too seriously.

What's a great practice? Stop bashing. We all live better.

_ALL_ iBooks use 2.5" IDE notebook drives. I don't know where you heard SCSI but the last Apple portable to use a 2.5" SCSI was sometime around the mid 90's IIRC. The iBook you had was made in 2001. /me huggleznesses his PowerBook G3 Series Rev 2 from 1998 with 40GB 2.5" Samsung ATA drive and comments on how the whole computer is almost dead silent.
btw, you _really_ got ripped off. No HD replacement should cost that much. If I was in your position I would have contacted other Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) and asked for an estimate, then, if the original was absurdly high, report them to Apple. Apple has taken AASP status away from places in the past and can do it again.

All iBooks are crap but honestly, they were never highend systems. If you expected to do a bit of gaming you should have picked up a G4 PowerBook from around the same time period. Though, that iBook should have been able to run things like UT99 fine in OS 9 or OS X(with UTX Preview 3 in OS X). Heck, my sis has played bejewelled in 10.4.7 on a 400Mhz G3 iMac with 8MB Rage 128VR and 512MB RAM with no issues. Your iBook had something funky going on with it.

$500 dell + $128 osx = $628 pc that would cost $1500 if it was made by apple.

We all dont have money for $30 coffee's and designer computers made by Californians.

Its like this: why buy an $50 hollister t-shirt when you can buy a $5 regular t-shirt that is the same.
Your not going to get a Dell for $500 that has a 2.2ghz C2D with 2Gb of memory. Again, you have to look at what the Mac is offering. They don't sell "value" machines...

Also its a against the license agreement to install OSX on none Apple hardware, so what you suggest is not legal.

This will solve everything:

MACS ARE PC'S
They are expensive quality PC's that are allowed to run one more OS than PC's.

Buy a comparable (read not cheap arse teaser computer from Dell that can't do anything - which you end up spending tons of money upgrading it) - it is close. SOmetimes Apple wins, sometimes Dell

I just configured a Dell vs Apple:
Dell Precision Workstation 490 MiniTower - 32bit (about the same size as the PowerMac)

2 - quad-core 2.66 Mhz (there is no 3 GHz option)
1 Gb of memory
No Monitor
256MB PCIe x16 nVidia Quadro FX 3500 (the mac has a Quadro FX 4500 installed - dell has a better Quadro FX 4600 as an option - but that would drive the price wayyyyyyyy upppppp over the Mac)
250Gig HD

$5,456

PowerMac
2 - quad-core 3.00Mhz
1 Gb of memory
No Monitor
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 512MB, Stereo 3D (2 x dual-link DVI)
250Gig HD

$5,646

for $200 more you get 3 GHz vs. 2.66 Ghz - and faster graphics with the mac.

You can also install 4 graphic cards in the mac if you like. No problems since there is no need to add any other internal cards - everything comes on the Mac
faster graphics? you think a pci bus is FASTER than pci express x16 bus?
