Setting FSB Multiplier on Asus A8V-VM

Thread Starter
I've just started to overclock my x2 4200: pushed the fsb until I reached a stable 10% overclock, went back into bios (amibios 0401) to adjust the fsb multiplier, but couldn't find any settings for it.

Is it not possible to manually set the fsb multiplier on this board? Or do I need to update the bios? Or am I being a muppit (first time oc'er) and missing something obvious?

It's in there... likely in the Advanced Chip Set section.
The CPU multiplyer can be reduced on the 939 and AM2 CPUs but not increased beyond the default multiplyer of... in your case with a 4200+ of 11x.

It is in the advanced menu but it will be greyed out. I think you have to go to "security settings" and set up a password to be able to enable some of the advanced options. Check section 2-36 in your manual.

I have read the manual for this board twice now and I am not sure that you van change the CPU multiplier.

After doing more research on this board on the net I guess the best advice I could give you is that if you want to overclock...get a different board. This board just does not have many options for overclocking.CPU frequency can only be adjusted from 200 to 240, no ability to change CPU multiplier that i can find.
At 2.43 you have your CPU Frequency at 220 or 221 so you still have a little room to push the FSB and that seems to be your only option.

Thanks for the replies. A friend is upgrading to C2D in a few weeks and is looking to sell his S939 components. His motherboard is a Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe, do people rate this board? The specs seem spot on and the reviews I've read seem good, but wondered if anyone has experience with this board?

My signature rig is based on the A8N32-SLI Deluxe. I love mine absolutely. It's rock-stable, and once you get past the quirks of the BIOS (it's got some proprietary terminology, but a good close reading of the manual and a solid foundation on AMD64 overclocking concepts clears things up great) it's a user-friendly yet potent overclockers' motherboard.

Hope this helps!

I had that board for a build once and could not figure out how to change the multi so I gave up and exchanged it for a Biostar Tforce board.
