Want to upgrade my E6600 to QUAD core...

Thread Starter
I currently got back into playing PC games. My #1 game is Microsoft's FSX Simulator. I also recently installed a new 8800GTS card. FSX is very CPU intensive and with the recent release of SP1 for FSX the sim can take advantage of up to 256 cores. Its been a while since I purchased my E6600 and have been away from the forums. What is the best price point for a QUAD core or even a new dual core. I would like to overclock the QUAD core if possible.

266 american dollars. As far as OCing is concerned, I have no clue, but I have heard it does its job. Dont get the Q6800 though, requires crazy cooling.

AMD_DAVE saw a 3.8ghz on Water in a suicide run. I'm assuming, with revisions, you should be able to sit at a cool and clean 3.4ghz stable on water without your temps exceeding the 55C mark. That's a GUESS though.

I'm hoping for 3.4ghz on air with a new p35 board. Should be a tide-over until Penryn's hit.

Definitely recommending the Newer Q6600's here.

Way to go man!! I think I'm going to try for 2nd soon...didn't tweak my ram for the last run, I'm gonna try lower speed with tight timings.

knitelife has his Q6600 running at 4.0 GHz with phase cooling, so there seems to be a lot of potential in these chips.

I FSX is heavily CPU intensive I would recommend the upgrade.

My thermaltake water cooling systems is weak. This was the first system as a rookie back in 04. Should I go air or better water cooling?

Upgraded water cooling should do well for the oc, I'd say go for it.
