8-pin power connector?

Thread Starter
On this motherboard, it says it needs a 8-pin power connector. I've only seen a 4-pin power connector board. My PSU have 2 x 4-pin power connectors. Would I have to hook up both of the connectors on this board?

I think the 8pin config is optional, my motherboard has an 8pin connecter w/ 4 pins covered by default. You can use the entire connecter or just half. I started using only the 4 pin, but since I realized my PSU had both an 8 and 4 pin ATX connecter so now I use the 8, not sure what benefit this supplies though.

Can you put 2 x 4-pin connector to the 8-pin board?

Do the pin shapes match up, when inserted in the proper orientation?

Same motherboard here. My PSU also had the 8-pin connector. I read in another thread a while back that you can just plug in the 4-pin to the 8-pin connector, and it will work fine. Not 100% sure on this. You could also look for an 4-pin to 8-pin adaptor.

From what I've been told: The 8pin is only necessary with quads. Just got a p5k and called ASUS because I was just as confused as you. Good luck.

Alright. I'll go test it myself for him in the morning.

Thanks ~
