Can a peltier cool a quad core at 4 GHz? How much money would it take to make/buy?

You would need a 427w TEC.... the cooling loop, block, and PSU will run around $400-500. Plus you will notice a $10-30 jump in your power bill. For the cost, just get a custom phase unit.

can you really build a phase unit for 500? i thought they'd cost you 700+.

@ linx, why just 1 pelt? add more to also chill the water ;P

Pelt chillers are not very good...If you just have the parts laying around they would be fun to play with but I wouldn't buy parts just to make one...They will eat a lot of electricity for the little gain also...
