Toshiba to Install HD DVD Drive into All Its Laptops - Page 4

My Tosh laptop was a POS.

In terms of storage medium, I think everyone will agree - even sony haters, that Blu-Ray is much better. A theoretical limit of 200GB compared to HD's 60GB. Blu-Ray writers are at around 8x now whereas I believe HD writers are still stuck at 1x. Out of interest...who sells more laptops, Sony or Toshiba?

Remeber also that Dell, HP, Sony(obviously) and Apple all support Blu-Ray so Tosh will have quite a fight on their hands in this sector of the market.

Another question...will 15" laptop screens EVER be able to display 1080p?

But as far as BluRay codecs go:

What video codecs does Blu-ray support?

www.blu-ray.com
I can tell the difference at times between the two. Some of the dual format transfers are better on one than the other. Mainly due to the fact that although Blu-ray can support mpeg-4, they have very few movies encoded with it out right now. HD-Dvd has used the newer codecs more often despite everyone's claims that it is inferior technology. I do believe Blu-ray can, and will, be better in the long run, but they have yet to use all this superior tech they keep claiming.

Yes but at that point you are comparing mpeg-2 to mpeg-4, not bluray to HD DVD.

No. I was just stating what each format has been using. By doing so it adds in a difference between the two. New movies coming out now should both be in mpeg-4 so it isnt a big deal anymore.
