Rumors: AMD's make-or-break processor is running late - Page 2

Mootsfox, I was expecting a more in depth post then that, coming from you.

The Pentium 4 series were mostly driven by marketing. Even if the A64 was superior in terms of performance, it was still being beaten down by Intel's Dothan chip, then Yohna chip, which both could be put onto desktop. But what was driven by Intel the most, was mostly marketing, which the P4 sold a lot. Don't forget, a company will not change something that is selling a lot, with company's like Dell and HP using only Intel processors, AMD really was just relying on the average computer enthusiast to buy their CPU's.

AMD's income at that time, did rise a lot, but still was not enough to face against Intel. When Intel did start to notice a problem with their sales as time went on, they decided to move onto using more of the Dothan core, which was not being tapped into fully yet, now that is why we got C2D. All it really is, is a modified Intel Yohna core.

AND NOW Barcelona has been delayed again, just like the R600 was. In addition to delays, Barcelona has shown almost nothing in it's early stages.

I hope they come back from their slump, but it doesn't look likely with Barcelona.
You've been paying attention right?

I remember when Intel had nothing against the Althon 64's and the A64 dual cores. No one else seems to remember that designing a new processor takes a good deal of time. AMD rode A64 a tad too long without starting something else. It took Intel 3 years to come back from the orginal A64 ownage by releasing the C2D. If AMD can come out with a CPU that can beat the C2D in a year, I'd say they are doing pretty good.
This is true but Intel had all the OEM people on their side. Dell made exclusively Intel computers, and overall people still trusted the Intel name just a bit more. I'd like to see barcelona come out and do well, it'd obviously light a fire under Intel's butt to make something better or cheaper.

I'm talking about how Intel basically blackmailed hundreds of computer stores by saying if you stock AMD products, we won't give you bulk pricing.

However, as the original Athlon64 launch showed, AMD is certainly capable of surprising us and we certainly hope they do. For all of us who have been crying for Barcelona benchmarks, you really don't want to see them yet.
AMD will be bought out before the end of 2008.

Technically, no. Well, not as of the end of '06 anyway.
Assets - Liabilities - Stockholders' Equity = Net Tangible Assets
AMD's Net Tangible Assets = +1.361 billion at the end of '06. I can't imagine them being in 3.8 billion of debt by now... maybe by the end of the year though.

I believe they really picked the wrong time to merge with ATI, hogging all the CPU/GFX production action, this IMO was "tha big mistake"
no "R600" or quad while Vista was released, as if development for AMD/ATI stood still while merging....
When your behind on the PC market, i believe its really hard to catch up again, lets hope they manage to keep their heads above the water, and manage to release some monster chips, they should give it the codename "out the guttah" .....
