Anyways my friend said his E6300 at 3.15 is now 5.7. But it was 5.9 when he had first overclocked in Vista..
Maybe an update?

Well I finally started to get some stuff loaded. I did fresh loads of everything just to get a good new version of all my stuff. CSS was first. Game play was excellent. The stress test yeilded 204.38fps average on high settings (forgot the rest) at 1680 1250 wide screen on my 22" monitor.
Not much of a drop at all from my XP install.

One thing that is kind of odd but with my XP install and comcast everyhting was slow internet wise like really slow and now everyhting is really fast. On some downloads I am getting 1mb/sec and faster and average around 500kb/sec. Pretty good from before where max was about 250 if that.

I am liking alot so far

I went and turned it on high performance with everything off and it is still at about 570+mb.

Besides it being a system hog I seem to be pretty happy with it. The file system is going to take a little getting use to since I have had XP for so long. Heres a pic with my score for the built in benchmark thing. Ok I guess.

Time to find out how to tone down the resources this thing is using.
Hey Max, you want to keep the Aero interface as it actually performs better and is more stable than the others. Aero is hardware rendered by your GPU. The standard UI are software rendered. Software is inherently less stable than something that is hardware rendered. I suggest you keep the Aero.

Also, even though it indicates that you are using 720MB of RAM, it is not like that RAM is being used just to display the UI and run the OS. The memory is being used for some fancy Vista features (the name of which I cannot remember). Just like in Folding@Home the CPU utilization by F@H is low priority and will give way to other applications, a large portion of that 720MB will give way to another program thats needs it.

Vista (especially x64) is extremely stable and secure. I feel sorry that you have such a preconceived notion about Vista.

I have Vista Ultimate and Gentoo w/Beryl.

I am sorry, but I think my Transparent 3d Cube with 4 desktops with window depth blows the aero stuff out of the water.

Here is some great reading you can do on Vista:

Windows Vista Features

UI (User Interface)

Security Features

Performance Features

Reliability Features

Internet Features

Bundled Applications

Digital Media Features

Networking Features

Mobility Features

Other Features

I ordered Windows Vista Ultimate (Retail) from Newegg and I get it tomorrow. I have done a lot of reading about Vista and it seems to be a great OS. The 64 bit version is excellent.

hey madmax how did that switch to x64 work? how do you get them to send you the disk for it? if i have the 32-bit upgrade version can i still get the 64-bit disk? sorry about all the questions but im considering switching over to vista
post #28 of 39
Im STILL waiting for 64-bit driver support here, last time I installed vista business 64bit (I think that was the version, I got it free from school through the ELMS program) I loved using it, but most of the stuff it has is unnecessary, plus my card reader and wifi dongle did not work. Same with my bluetooth mouse. As soon as SP2 drops I think Ill be all over vista like a little M$ whore on christmas eve.

hahaha M$ whore on christmas... but i dont have a card reader or bluetooth anything so i should be okay...

how does the 64-bit upgrade work?
Gentoo has a free 64 bit version of linux, which is fully supported and fully stable. Many programs are written for it too...

Also, my Gentoo setup takes 70 Megs of RAM when running compared to 700 Megs of Vista...
