lol. if i screw up think mb, i think i'll get a new one. i just want to try soldering it onto the board and see if it works.

also, do u think the chipset will fry?

mmmm, possibly, but since it's there, leads connected, and options in place and oter borads w/ the same chipset have that PCI-e slot, i'doubt it'd fry it...

If you guys are suggesting him to get a new mobo, then it doesn't hurt to try soldering either way.

Yeah he'll likely have to find the BIOS for the PCIe version of his MoBo and flash to that. Then again, maybe not if he has that option in the BIOS already.

I did the same thing to a pos dell board i got out of a computer that i wanted to try it out on...

It did work. The board i did it on already had the right bios on it to support everything... It seems like they just didn't put the pcie slot on the lower end boards to save money...

i would take some soldering braid and "suck out all the solder out of the holes, then place the pcie plastic in the slot and then start filling in the holes with solder... I soldered the corners first with mine so i could move the board around when i did it without worrying about the plastic slot moving around...

after you do the solder job, i would turn the computer on with minimul components attached. No video card no pci cards not hdds no cd/dvd drives, just in case...

And if the board fully posts, then plug in a video card that you wouldn't mind frying, because that is a real possibility if you have to solder points touching, you could cross to voltage lins or something like that.....

This is what i did on a dell board.... And it worked. Not sure about your board, but like you said, if your not to worried about picking up another mb if you fry this one, then go for it!!
