Enough Amps?

Thread Starter
Im building a new rig and i was wondering whether a Bluestorm 500 would provide enough amps down the 12V rails for it because it has split rails.

The rig is as follows:

Mobo: Asus M2V
CPU: AMD Athalon X2 5200+
RAM: 2Gigs DDR2 800
Graphics: Asus 8600 GT
Sound: Onboard (Realtek)
Maxtor Hard drive (80GB) (from my old rig)
DVD drive (quite new, i'm taking this from my old rig)

Also i couldn't find any reviews of the X-power PSUs that you can get in Maplins, if anyone has any experience with these please tell me becasue they are my other main option.

Thanks,
Lightbulb

What price range are you looking for? Bluestorm is an older FSP unit... I am pretty sure you can find better.

Also, get a slower processor but a better video card if you want to game.
Once again...

My budget is around £60.

I already have ordered the rest of the rig apart from the power supply. I understand about the more powerful Graphics instead of processing but I got the motherboard and CPU cheap together, and so cost me about the same as a much lower spec CPU. The graphics then filled the rest of my budget. The only place I can really get my PSU from is Maplins(link)
and so apart from ordering online they are my only real options.

Thanks for the help,
Lightbulb

He is UK... no Newegg.

So Lightbulb... why not order online from UK store? Much better selections.

Looks like it should support your system build, but any upgrades and you may want to upgrade the psu in the future.

I went with the Blue Storm 500 in the end. I put it all together today with the power supply and installed the latest drivers for everything. I am running Vista 32 bit buisness edition.

I started up Shadowrun and played for about 10 mins before my screen hung for about 10 seconds before switching to standby. Is this cause by an inadequate number of amps to my graphics card because I have read about peopel suffering from similar problems? If not do any of you have any ideas what could have caused it?

Incase it helps according to the system information it was a Windows Error and was a type 5
&#x000A. There were several errors listed at the time of the hang all with and event name related to the PnPDriver not being found or having a problem code or something to do with a Radar Pre leak.

If you need any more info on the error or the spec just ask.

Thanks,
Lightbulb

If it is because of low voltage, you should be able to notice by watching the temp on your gpu, when voltage drops heat should increase quickly.

At the time of the hang my GPU is around 56 degrees and reaches that temperature after about 2 mins of playing and stays there and then everything hangs so i can't see if the temperature changes.

I have suffered this problem every time I try to run shadowrun and it is also happening in NWN 2 with the same kind of errors every time.
