Where to go from here?

Thread Starter
Hi

Looking for some advice if anyone could offer some it would be great.

I've got a DS3 rev 3.3, some 2x 1GB OCZ Gold DDR800 on the way from the US, now I'm trying to figure out which CPU to go for?

Is there any point in getting a 6300 over a E4300/E2160 if I've only got memory running at DDR800. Is that memory even overclockable?

Given my motherboard and memory, what would you do? Go for an E4300/E2160 or E6300?

Thanks

PS. How do I get rep points on here , I was trying to post in the wanted section but need 35pts.

I would personally go for the E6420 (4MB cache compared to 2MB on the 6300/4300/2160) and only $20 more than the 6400. Also, you should be able to over clock that memory, someone with the same sticks may be able to hop in here and show some results; OCZ is a good brand, although, I don't know how well that particular set will OC?

And to get rep you just need to help people out and they will give you rep sometimes if the info you provided was useful

I've heard that OCZ Golds don't overclock very well. Yes you should get the E6420 over the E6300 or E6400.

The E6420 would be your best bet if you were to go get a E6320/E6300/E6400. The E6420 have 4MB of cache over the 2MB on the E6400. The E6420 is a lot easier to overclock due to the extra multiplier that it has over the E6320. Higher multiplier = lower FSB = cooling North Bridge. Some motherboards have a hard time hitting 400FSB, though the DS3 can go to around 450 with no trouble.

I don't find any needs to overclock my RAM. It kills my frames in games.
