Is my chip dying????

Thread Starter
My machine all of a sudden has developed a LOT of lag booting in Windows. It hangs at the Welcome Windows screen for a while and then finally boots up. Last night, after it did that it kept rebooting itself. I haven't changed any of the settings of the machine in a long time. The only thing that has changed is that internet has been out for the past couple of days.... Temps are in the low 30's according to the BIOS and the 12V is at 11.96V - 12.04V. It kept rebooting and saying that Windows has recovered from a serious error. I was able to run Norton on there. Amazingly, it was able to run the whole way. Sadly, it rebooted a few minutes after being done with the scan.... What else can it be?

RAM?

I'm more inclined to think it's RAM than the CPU. I've yet had to see a CPU go bad, even when subjected to manhandling (I've got friends who toss CPUs around -- and fail to make the catch! They still work, however), but I've seen plenty of RAM go sour. More sensitive, RAM seems to be...

It's possible you may have incurred some data corruption as well, sad to say.

Hope this helps.

RAM Module going bad possibly. Try booting from a live CD. If that crashes you know its hardware and not windows.

Some have reported issues with Norton \\
Are you up to date and are there any patches for it?
You could try uninstalling Norton.
Also, check for Trojans/key stealers, etc... with something other than Norton.
