PS3 does not really use OpenGL?

Turns out that the PS3 does not use OpenGL for games. Instead it uses a semi stripped, tweaked & customized OpenGL 1.0 based API PSGL that uses libGCM. It turns out that MS has had their hand in the cookie jar all along with the OpenGL spec all along as we can see here dating back to 97!

Once again Microsoft has used there weight to shape there competetors into using what they want. It seems unfair that Sony is using a standard that MS helped design and then dropped after improving on it with Direct X.

Also it turns out that AMD co-creator with Microsoft of the 360 custom videocard has been pushing and backing the new DICE engine Frostbite used in with Battlefield Bad Company! If that isn't favoring one console over another silently I don't know what is.

Why is Sony doing this? Why don't they create PSGL2 based on OpenGL 2.0?
I would think this would hurt the graphics of the system. And from AMD backing the DICE engine I can already see the X360 looking better than PS3.

hmm... open gl 1.0 is old. maybe they wanted to save money. but none the less the ps3 does have nice graphics.

Th PS3 graphic looks good, but after you posted this.....it makes me feel that my PS3 has bad graphic, which makes me pissed....OI

Well for starters, none of your articles say anything about the OpenGL version Sony uses in the PS3, something to back that up would be nice.

Also what's wrong at all with AMD favoring the xbox360? ATi which is now part of them produced the video card, and there is no reason whatsoever for AMD to have any sort of loyality to Sony.

About MS producing directx, that honestly was probally more so that they had control over it, as openGL could be run on Linux. this gives MS the PC gaming advantage, as people produced games for windows using DX and they couldn't be run on Linux or OSX. Nothing to do with consoles at all really. Also all this was done way before MS even decided to make a console, I really don't see how this would apply at all to the x360 v PS3 era.

Additionally since there is no main article and you seem to just be drawing conclusions from 10 year old articles, you should probally have just posted this in the game console section.
