I think it's funny how so many PS3 haters have to resort to this sort of bashing. I mean who the hell cares what the system uses? Do you think anyone who is deciding what console to get actualy considers that the "PS3 use openGL" or the 360 "uses DirectX"???

The fact of the matter is the PS3 has excellent "graphics", just like the 360. Case closed.

The reason people have fights over graphics...
PS3 > XBOX 360
XBOX 360 > PS3

Is because realisticly, it depends on the game, and even then, it is very hard to determine. The game has to be a direct make for that console, not a port of it. It should be designed from the ground up to take full advantage of each console.
However - This is not realistic. Rebuild the whole game? No. Port it over, sure.
Saves time and money. Personally, I'd stick w/ the PS3 and games made specifically for it, in regards to graphics. But honestly- graphics aren't everything. Gameplay is where it is at. And this is where I find the PS3 pwns.

About MS producing directx, that honestly was probally more so that they had control over it, as openGL could be run on Linux. this gives MS the PC gaming advantage, as people produced games for windows using DX and they couldn't be run on Linux or OSX. Nothing to do with consoles at all really. Also all this was done way before MS even decided to make a console, I really don't see how this would apply at all to the x360 v PS3 era.

Additionally since there is no main article and you seem to just be drawing conclusions from 10 year old articles, you should probally have just posted this in the game console section.

Rendering uses PSGL, a modified version of OpenGL ES 1.0 (OpenGL ES 2.0 compliant except for the use of Cg instead of GLSL), with extensions specifically aimed at the PS3.
