Quad core won't power up.

Thread Starter
I have a Q6600 and I can't get the thing to power up. EVGA 680sli and 500w cooler master power supply. The guy at EVGA said I need a 8 pin power supply on top of the 24 pin. Does this sound right? Thanks.

Yes, you will need to use an 8-pin 12V plug into the board.

Also, I would not trust a CoolerMaster PSU with a quad-core.

yeah
you'll need a 24 pin main power connector, and an 8-pin CPU power connector.

I think you could get a PC P&C 610 for a decent price. Reliable power, lots of connections for sata, 2 for PCI-e x16 power, and quality.

Will be good for you when you upgrade from the 7300 without going overboard on uneeded wattage.
