Hard Drive Status Unreadable

I have a 60GB Maxtor 6y060l0 with a problem. I found it in a drawer because I remembered it going bad in my brother's computer after a couple months of use, just like the previous 60gb maxtor 6y060l0. It won't show up in my computer, but when I boot up with a windows xp install cd, it shows that it's there and that it has 60GB on it, but it says it's unaccessable.
I right clicked on the C drive and clicked properties.
Then I went to hardware and found it at the top of the list.
When I opened it up I went to volumes and told it to populate, and after about a minute of searching it shows that it's unreadable.
Afterwards I went into disk management and rescanned the disks, it didn't help. Any ideas?

Oh, and it's set as a slave. With my 120GB Seagate as master.

It is probably corrupted. So basically the 60gb is unaccessable?

Did you try leaving it on "Cable Select".
