Which 8800gts should i need?

Thread Starter
Hey there guys. I just bought a new motherboard and installed it but i got one problem needing to be solved...i need to take out that trash chaintech 6200 and slap in an 8800gts.

i was going to get a 8600 but i trashed that idea thanks to some help from you guys.

so i narrowed it down to these two EVGAs since i like theres the best.

http://directron.com/320p2n815ar.html (320 MB)

http://directron.com/640p2n821ar.html (640 mb)

judging by my system specs, would the 640 mb make a big difference over the 320 between these two evgas?

the 320 is superclocked and i can always SLI in the future with this new motherboard.

if i do SLI, should i get 2 640s or 2 320s.

my resolution is at 1680 by 1050 but i can play games with a lower res if i have to.

i plan on playing games like crysis with this setup but i dont want it to run like crap.

and are there any other modifications i should make to my pc?

anything else i should buy to make my computer better for games?

thanks a bunch

btw what do i have to do to play cell factor without buying that PhysX card.
it ran like crap when i had a radeon x1600 pro 512mb.

Get the 640 version, cause it will help at a higher resolution, and might also have an impact on newer games.

I would get the one with more ram because in DirectX 10 Games you'll need all the Graphics Ram you can get. Also, the price difference is not that great. On the other hand SLi'd GTS's would bottleneck your CPU - seeing that it is a X2 not a Core 2.

Another one for the 640MB. There have been many of people on this site complaining about the 320's not handling the DX10 Demos due to the low memory.

It really depends on your budget. If you are tight on cash than the 320MB won't disappoint. It performs very well for a budget. If you have the money to spare, by all means get the 640MB.

I will be posting my 640MB EVGA 8800GTS on the FS forum in a few days, so if you are on a budget be aware that one will be available.

I would get an eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS 640MB from Newegg. You'll run all of the DirectX 9 games amazingly, and you should run DirectX 10 games at Maximum with a good bit of AA and AF. (I would guess High Settings with 2-4x AA/AF at 30-50FPS.)
