Sempron MAX temp.

Thread Starter
I want to know the maximum temperature that should alarm me for this chip. I haven't yet OC'd the chip.

I want to OC a sempron 3000+ (socket 754) normally running at 1.8Ghtz. This is the first time I've done anything like this. Before doing anything, I downloaded PC Wizard 2007. It told me my current idle CPU temp was 42 degrees C, and my core temp was 33 degrees C. I noticed that my CPU temp was 52-53 degrees C at high load times. I've heard that over 50 C is bad. Is that true? Why do other sources, AMD and PC Wizard 2007, say the chip's max temp is 69 C? Is > 50 C always bad?

Thanks,
- Steve (new guy)

75c is when its really dangerous. Anything above that will prob nuke your cpu. I would definately get some better cooling like the zalman 9500. That sucker will dramatically reduce your temps, and its $15-$20 cheaper than the 9700.

theres no reason to go all out on such a weak chip. a 9500 is good for a decent overclock on a duel core. to get a good oc on a sempron id recommend a either on of these.

I don't think going above 50 will fry it or cause any other kind of short term damage but 69 sounds about right. High temps do lower the life of the chip (who knows how high and by how much). I would keep it below 60 or 65, my OC'd Sempron never goes higher than 50.

Thank you. I really appreciate your information. I am going to buy one of those cooling device, you've mentioned! I also don't have a case fan. I found out that I should have that, by reading through the forums. True?

One odd thing that I've noticed ... my BIOS screen says the CPU temp is 47 degrees C (unshelved, with the case open, sitting in the BIOS), and PCW 2007 says the CPU temp is 42 degrees C (in shelfing unit, with case closed, doing nothing in Windows)? Is that possible?
