60$ difference on supposed high end cards to lose in high end settings? (AA/AF tests were utter garbage). Not to mention the GTS has higher ocing capabilities.

What really annoys me is the way people entirely neglect the 320mb GTS. You want to say the 2900XT is better for lower res? You can nearly SLI 320mb's for the price of the 2900.

And of course, the DX10 benches, in which the GTS smokes the 2900 (no, minimum frame =/= better card) are no where to be seen.

I dont particularly care which card is better at the moment...but, let's face it, the GTS, the GTX, the Ultra, and the XT are all atrocious in DX10 benchmarks. So bringing up the DX10 point is moot. Nothing smokes anything in DX10 land.

And since DX10 isn't going to be the standard for a presumably long, long time, DX9 is really all that matters.

Edit - That is of course if you like to game a super low resolutions with no eye candy...then maybe DX10 should be relevant. But by the time DX10 is mainstream, all of today's GFX cards will be a thing of the past.

Point taken. But theres no denying that a true test of the drivers would be throwing DX10 at the card.

Also, i think its interesting that image quality wasn't considered at all in this review, as that has been the reason for a lot of the 2900XT's benchmarks. Anyone remember 100FPS at CoH (DX9) at 16xAA? Simply because the XT couldn't handle it, it just dropped all image quality.

There aren't *that* many DX10 games/benchmarks out there yet. And from what I understand those out aren't the best examples of good coding

Correct me if I am wrong though... .and I'd like to see some of those benchmarks

I don't know guys, its better, but they had plenty of time to make it better than the 8800 series.

X2

We really havent seen a true DX10 build game//bench that was meant to run native in DX10. Everything we have seen so far was a DX9 game to start with.

So much hostility... The nvidia cards had the same improvement measures with their G80 series when they first came out, particularly with Vista.

I like Kramy, he's pretty impartial in all of this. Something good to say about both companies and something bad as well.

Thread Starter
Want my opinion? alright!

The test should be considered inconclusive for a couple of reasons. I fail to see exactly his testing methods and how exactly he set up the system and software/drivers. The thing is, both sides have beta drivers, and both sides have a big chance of gaining performance if proper drivers are made. I agree on one thing, the HD 2900xt was a total failure at the beginning compared to the 8800gts, so it is much easier for it to gain publicity if it gains a performance increase, as more people kept an eye on it, but, the 8xxxx series also do not have proper drivers, but even with the failure of proper drivers, the card tends to have its performance increase over the hd 2900xt without its proper drivers, but now that they do have "more" proper drivers, then the tides have changed.

What I am getting at is, we must wait longer to find out if Nvidia will do something and change their drivers, and also wait for another reviewer to come around and decide to take a look at both cards, with both drivers.

Personally, I would do it, if I had both cards. For instance, I have the capability to test both cards and take my time to make everything thorough. But I am only 17, turning 18 this month, and most company's will not trust me with reviewing a product of theirs.

So at this point and time, take the article with a grain of salt, just like any review site. Cause one thing I learned with many review sites, they tend to favor a company who pays more for the review. So I do not know what the real power house is right now.
