extending the life of 939 socket

Thread Starter
I was wondering if going from my 4400+ at 2.8 to an opty 185 would help extend the life of my 939. Would i even see any type of boost in games such as stalker, counter strike, etc. Or should i just save my money and upgrade to a c2d?

If you wanted to go for a opty either get the 165 or 170. Cheaper and will atleast oc to the 185 speeds.

It will give you some better speeds, and if you do decide to buy an opteron, Just get a 165, they are cheaper and overclock the same.

I personally would save up for a Core 2 Duo, Thats what i am working on right now.

Absolutely senseless move to change from an excellent 2.8GHz X2 4400+ to an Opteron. There's no guarantee whatsoever that you'd get the same speed from any chip you get afterwards.

As the others have said, it makes more sense to change platforms to C2D if you feel you must spend the money.

Personally, though, I'd wait until such time when software catches up to all this wonderful hardware.

But that's just me.

If you have played the DiRT demo, than you know the software has caught up to my hardware...

I would just keep the money...your system is fine unless you want 512MB more ram, better psu, or gfx.

Keep your 4400. The Opterons will perform about the same as your current CPU.

Yup, best right now to save up to go Core 2 or AM2+ when it launches. If you have the cash to burn right now then go for a new GPU, the 7800's are showing their age a little these days
