My friend wants a Macbook, tell him why he shouldn't!

Thread Starter
He says he wants to buy a Macbook for $1600.00. I told him I would spend that money towards a PC. He wants some info on why Macs are crap. I am to "biased" he says.

Macbooks are very nice machines. If he wants a laptop and doesn't game, I see no reason why he shouldn't get one.

They aren't crap. That's the thing.

You can Mac-haters on a PC forum, obviously, and that will cause alot of bias. But they ARE well built, reliable machines. I've never tried OS X for long, but I imagine it's a damned decent OS. If you don't like it, they can run windows now.

As for PC vs Laptop. I prefer laptops. I like to be able to take my main machine around the house, to friends places etc.

ummmm.....macs arent crap. they are 100x easier to use than a PC if you understand how to use them. they hardly EVER get viruses, and the programs u can use on mac are amazing if u dont wanna game. but then again, u dont reallyt wanna try and game on a lappy anyways :|

in all honesty, i use a PC desktop, but i will never buy a PC laptop. MacBooks are honestly the best made.

tell your friend that he should go for it

OSX is absolutely fabulous. it is fluid, functional, and it overall, imho, works better than any windows OS i have ever used.

also, the_jester is right. there is something to be said for the ability of a MacBook to operate on a windows OS. however, i see no reason to.

OSX>>>>>>>WinXP>>>>>>>>Vista

as long as he makes sure it doesn't suck, he should probably buy it. If he wanted a desktop, he should get a PC; but since he wants a laptop, a mac would probably work.

For this price range, I would go for an Asus G1S-A1 which is like $200 more expensive and a hundred times better.

What about Macs makes them a BETTER choice, though? I mean...what kind of idiot lets a virus run rampant on his Windows or Linux machine? Do Mac users think we're all using Windows '95? Get AdAware, get Spybot, and be done with it.

If he actually wants a laptop, tell him to get an SSD-based Dell or something, once they're out. I can't wait to grab one for college. Windows laptops are still best bang for buck.

Macbooks are nice, but I just worry about the heat of ANY laptop. The thinner the better but make sure that thing can breathe.

As far as OS are concerned, its all a matter of preference. I have had experienced with both OSX and XP and OSX is an improvement, but I see nothing wrong with Windows XP.

Viruses, spyware, and all that junk can be prevented. I haven't had any problems if proper research and procedures are performed.

Macs do have great programs but most of them are available for PC as well. The ones that are Mac only, there are great substitutes out there. Also, PC programs pretty much dominate the torrent scene.

I find that the only bad thing about Macs are people who love it. They try to state facts that are false and try to say that every computer with Windows OS fails. One of those facts is that Macs never need to be updated. I heard that before but I can't believe it was endorsed by the company. I installed Adobe CS3 on the Mac computers at my friend's school and the OSX needed to be "updated."

But again, depends on what he is going to use it for, the Macbook might be fine for his needs.
