External CD Drive for ~$20?

Thread Starter
I am looking for an external (USB) drive for a friend.
His DELL CD drive seems to not work at all.
I installed 2 other drives (IDE) and both seem to be non working.
It seems every CD drive I install it in, no matter how I go about it, it fails.

So I was hoping to find a cheap external.
I am also going to post in the WANTED section, to hopefully snag an external for cheap... Newegg seems to be all CD/DVD burners, he doesn't need that, and they are all ~$50+.

Any help fellahs?

I removed his old drive, put in a new one, and it still didn't allow it to read.
I installed an additional one, and still nothing.
Seems to be some sort of hardware bug I can't get around.
I told him I would rebuild him something cheap, but he wants to keep it.
He's still paying for it (P4 2.8Ghz + Geforce ti4400... ack.)

I have the adapter and case, but it is from the DVD burner that I have in my secondary PC right now. I don't want to give that up, but I might be able to send you the USB to IDE adapter. It only works with CD drives. No HDDs.

I will post pics in a sec.
