E6600 build - Page 2

You could do better, lol.

Either an Abit AB9 QuadGT P965 Motherboard or a DFI Infinity P965.

-Abit AB9 QuadGT
-DFI Infinity (P965)

They are both cheap boards, better overclockers than a P5B-Deluxe, and some of the most stable boards out there.

What is your budget for everything?

I would get:

Cooler Master Centurion ATX Case - $55
Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 Processor - $165
2x1GB of G. Skill DDR2-800 HZ Ram - $105
DFI Dark Infinity P965 Motherboard - $129
eVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB Card - $280

Plus, you get a $15 Mail-In Rebate for the Case, and a $20 Mail-In Rebate for the GTS; so, your total is $700 before shipping and tax. That will leave you money to get some fans or leds, or a fan controller.

The E4300 has 2MB of Shared L2 Cache; the E6320 has 4MB. That extra cache adds about the same amount of performance as a 200-300MHz overclock. So...

A 2GHz E6320 is as fast as a 2.25GHz E4300. You know what I'm talking about - or did I lose you?

No problem. You'll see a huge performance difference between your P4 and your new system, I did. I went from a P4 with 512MB of Ram, and an onboard graphics card to a Core 2 Duo, 2GB of Ram, and a 7900GTX. The E6600 processor cost too much in relation to your ram and graphics card. So, for the same price, you now get much more performance.

Oh, and as far as overclocks go, I would go with:

400FSB - 6x Multipler - 2400MHz Processor - 1:1 Ratio

Your ram will be at DDR2-800 (or 400MHz) so you don't need to touch that. Just go into the BIOS and make your FSB 400 and your Multipler 6.

Edit /// Get a Tube of Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound for like $7 at newegg. You will see a 3-5C drop in temps between that and the paste intel sends you.

GooD LucK.

Hm, I didn't know you could change the multiplier on a Core 2 Duo. 'Tis sweet.
