Multiple System Restores Now...

To begin with, I'm running Vista Home Premium.

Starting today, something has gone terribly wrong. At about noon, I had my pc do those automatic updates with a shutdown right after. I left my pc to go do some work outside, and during that time Windows Update must have had a serious meltdown, because when I returned and booted up my system, I recieved a screen telling me that Windws needed to do a self-repair along with a system restore.

After that was completed, I immediatly logged in and checked Windows Update. 3 of the updates had failed, while 2 were successful. Along with this check I ran a Mcafee scan, just to make sure I wasn't being invaded by anything. After revealing nothing out of the ordinary, I did some normal computing. I also ran Windows Update once more and had those updates re-install.

20 min. ago, I went for a restart to complete the installed updates, and once again I was faced with a system restore. I have checked the updates again, and some did indeed fail.

I'm incredibly nervous about this right now, this is my first real issue with Vista. I'm afraid to shutdown my pc in fear of another restore. Has Windows Update somehow been damaged? Everything is running normal on my pc, and again this did not begin until today. Help is absolutely appreciated, thanks much.

There have been a string of updates for Windows XP that has caused severe instability during update. They never actually ever finish updating and Windows keeps on telling you do download and install them. Each time they don't work.

It caused many issues on my computer, my dads computer, uncles's, sister's. and a few friends. I think it is best to avoid these updates.

Also, don't use Mcafee! It will slowly kill your computer.

Okay, that is an exaggeration, but really, Mcafee is bad. Use Avast or AVG. They are much better.

Yeah, my pc is back to normal, but Windows Update is still requesting me to download those particular updates that were problematic. I'm just going to ignore them, like you suggested.

As for Mcafee, it really hasn't been all that bad, but I will look into those just to make sure it hasn't been missing anything (which I doubt).

Thanks for the reply pauldovi, much appreciated.

Ya, use the stable version untill major updates come out. I second the notion "get rid of mcafee" AVG is easy, great, and free. You will notice a performance increase in the future.
