Ok, I really really like my quick starts, and hate to wait so if I start folding am I going to notice it dragging on my system at all?

If so, then would it be worth hooking up my old computer to fold, which can be on 24/7/365 its a 1ghz amd, 512 pc133 ram, 40gb hd, windows xp pro, nothing amazing, but it can be run with nothing but windows and the folding software on it?

How often do you have to monitor the folding software as I don't have a spare monitor for it?

Does it require a lot of internet connection?

#1, I don't notice it much, if you're talking about it slowing your boot time, don't set it to start with windows.

#2, This depends, if you don't mind a little bit higher electricity bill, then go ahead. I know people who fold on 600mhz p3's.

#3, If you use the console (non smp) you shouldn't have to monitor it much, every couple days should be fine.

#4, Nope, it only needs to be connected when it's downloading or uploading work units.

Well thats why I am thinking of running it on an old machine and not my main one, my old one has like a 230W power supply its basically factory hp(ram upgrade).

I am concerned about running my oc'ed new computer with the 580W power supply.

One last question would it be worth it to any team I joined with the old computer?

Do you mean folding for team 37726 (ocn's team) or folding for a team within team 37726?

Most folding teams are using much faster processors, so I don't think it would be such a good idea.

Would my main rig(in my sig) be worth a team?

Edit: should add its overclocked to 2.8 ghz right now, but it will run stable up to 3.08

I'm sure it would.

Yep, folding on the sig rig would help a lot
If you can get a few old machines together (I use 3 old Dell Optiplex GXa's, one Dimension 2100, and one P4(In a cardboard box)) you can set up a folding farm. The P4 alone pumps out one WU every 19hours. But I digress.

Didn't I read that there was a limit on how many cores each team gets? Because I actually have a machine almost identical to the one in my sig(just a different power supply/case/video card), in the same room. And then I have the old hp as well.
