well if you followed all the trouble shooting steps i gave you above,

running only bare components with other known working parts,

then its time for you to go and test either your cpu or you mobo.

find a friend who will let you put ur cpu in their system, or find a friend with the same cpu and put it in your mobo

or for right now, try another psu, if you dont' ahve one, take urz out of ur system. LOL

Has a P4 for sale that is the same socket as yours. Check the motherboard specs to see if it will work.

The HSF will either be mounted with clips or screws/bolts.

It sounds as though the internals (insofar as cleanliness) of this rig were neglected (no offense, most of us to this)... I do on some...

Once you have the HSF removed clean both the IHS (exposed top of the CPU) and the HSF base with a xylene-based cleaner, or rubbing alcohol.

At this point I don't think that you would need to use high-end TIM as you are only trying to resucitate the machine, not tune it for racing.

Clearing the CMOS -
  • Unplug the PSU from the wall socket.
  • Push the power button several times to clear the board (Just in case).
  • Remove the CMOS battery.
  • Move the Clear CMOS jumpers from 1/2 to 2/3
  • Wait for 5-10 minutes.
  • Replace the the Clear CMOS jumper to 1/2
  • Replace the Battery.

If you are uncertain what some of the things listed above are, ask. Many here are very familiar with a wide variety of hardware.

If you have pics or can link a URL to an image of your motherboard, then we can help identify what components are located where.

No just your settings in the BIOS. Does not affect the Hard Drive.

i reset the cmos and ran it only with the mobo, cpu, ram and gfx card and nothing changed

i think the main problem is either the cpu or mobo but im not sure what one
i have no other rigs to check the cpu with and nobody i know has the same kind

i could take it too my computer shop and they could test it for me

I feel that it is most likely the CPU, seeing as it has been exposed to ridiculous operating conditions, and the fact that I have experienced perfectly good boards acting dead with when used with bad CPU's.
